Annual review 2024

Exporting in a rapidly changing world

In 2024, the government guaranteed more than €4.6 billion in exports of capital goods and services through Atradius DSB. These are issued policies, including coverage commitments. The total exposure we manage on behalf of the government amounted to €16.8 billion – a figure that reflects several developments. Exposure remains relatively stable compared to previous years, but the number of transactions continues to grow due to an increasing share of SME transactions. In 2024, 39% of all transactions originated from SMEs, with a total export volume of €420 million.

Last year, €155 million in damages were paid out to policyholders under all schemes, which is more than in 2023. The outstanding claims that Atradius DSB collects for the state after claims payments increased to €97 million.

Practice: From green ships to solar energy in Africa

Behind these figures lie projects that directly contribute to sustainability and social impact. For example, Van Oord's offshore installation vessel Boreas was delivered in the Netherlands: a state-of-the-art work vessel for the construction of offshore wind farms, co-financed with our Green Coverage. The vessel runs partly on methanol, thus delivering significant CO₂ savings.

In Nigeria, a small-scale solar panel project is contributing to reliable power in villages that were previously off-grid. With the help of the Independent Energy Fund, supported by Atradius DSB, local entrepreneurs gained access to financing for life-changing installations.

We don't just look at transactions from a financial perspective. Atradius DSB sets strict requirements for environmental and social aspects, assesses projects against international standards, and continuously updates its compliance and anti-bribery policies. In 2024, we further tightened our anti-corruption policy and conducted more intensive due diligence and monitoring visits. At the same time, we are working to green our portfolio. The share of fossil fuel transactions decreased further in 2024 to 18.6%, a step forward in line with international climate goals.

Looking ahead: moving forward together

In 2025, we'll be ready to help exporters navigate new challenges. Always with the same goal: managing risks and facilitating deals. This is how Atradius DSB remains the essential link between entrepreneurs, financiers, and international markets. And we look forward to working with you to achieve this as effectively as possible again this year.

Summary

For many entrepreneurs, export credit insurance is a silent force. Invisible to the outside world, yet crucial for financing and covering the risks of capital-intensive projects. It is precisely in this arena that Atradius DSB offers support, as evidenced by the historically high number of applications. For all schemes, including DGGF and DTIF, there were a remarkable 369. This is a historically high number and a 33% increase in applications compared to the previous year.
