Annual review 2023

In a turbulent year, we were able to facilitate a lot of exports that otherwise could not have gone through: Over €1 billion secured in sustainable exports.

Security and Support for Exporters

With ongoing geopolitical unrest, such as the situation in Ukraine and tensions in the Middle East, Atradius DSB continues to focus on strengthening the position of Dutch companies in international markets. Export credit insurance (EKV) plays an essential role in this, as it offers companies security when exporting to risky markets. In 2023, a study showed that for every euro of EKV-covered exports, €1.80 is generated in total exports, underlining the importance of a solid EKV policy.

Sustainability and Green Exports

In line with national and international climate goals, Atradius DSB expanded support for sustainable projects in 2023. 68 Green Label transactions were insured, totaling €1 billion, offering more attractive terms to exporters contributing to global climate goals. In addition, funds such as Climate Investor I-II and the Green Shipping Fund were deployed to support Dutch exports in climate-oriented projects.

Claims Payments and Risks

Atradius DSB paid out €119 million in claims in 2023, up from the previous year. This increase is partly due to government-related payment problems in countries such as Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia, in addition to some claims caused by the war in Ukraine and sanctions against Russia and Belarus.

Ethical Business and Anti-Bribery

The annual review highlights Atradius DSB's careful approach to environmental, social risk and compliance. Environmental and social risk review frameworks were strengthened in 2023, and no complaints were received. In addition, the anti-bribery policy was renewed, with strict compliance to minimize financial integrity risks.

Economic Impact and Futures Policy

In cooperation with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Atradius DSB contributes to broader economic goals. In addition to traditional export support, such as in the capital goods and shipping sectors, Atradius DSB supports complex projects such as port expansions and offshore wind farms, which contribute to sustainable economic growth in the Netherlands and abroad.

With these efforts and constantly adapting its strategy to meet market demand and societal needs, Atradius DSB remains the export credit insurer of the Netherlands, dedicated to supporting businesses in a dynamic world.
