Atradius DSB Annual Review 2022: Retrospect and Outlook
Atradius Dutch State Business' Annual Review 2022 marks a year full of meaningful change and growth. In the year in which Atradius DSB celebrated its 90th anniversary, the organization once again proved to be a reliable mainstay for Dutch exporters. As the official export credit insurer of the Netherlands, Atradius DSB supports companies in covering risks in international markets, giving both large and small companies the security they need to remain globally active.
Strengthened focus on SMEs and sustainability
In 2022, Atradius DSB placed particular emphasis on SMEs and sustainable initiatives. Of the 330 applications received, 45 came from new customers, mainly SMEs. 153 policies were issued, including 54 labeled as “green” transactions. The Green Label offers companies more attractive terms for projects that contribute to global climate goals, such as sustainable energy and waste management projects.
Risks and Claims Payouts
Despite geopolitical and economic turbulence - from the war in Ukraine to sanctions and trade interruptions - Atradius DSB managed payment risks in these markets and paid out only €69 million in claims, a significant decrease from last year. Through effective risk management and strategic diversification, the portfolio remains stable even in challenging conditions.
Climate and compliance policy
With a tightened policy focused on environmental and social standards, Atradius DSB conducts its export credit insurance business according to strict sustainability requirements. Work continued in 2022 to implement the fossil exclusion policy, under which only projects that have a positive environmental impact are insured. For fossil projects, 2022 was the last year in which direct applications were accepted, in line with the climate goals.
Mutual impact: SDG contributions and international cooperation
Atradius DSB's impact extends beyond exports. The annual review highlights its contribution to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the areas of economic growth, infrastructure, and renewable energy. Collaborations with Invest International and funds such as the Dutch Good Growth Fund (DGGF) and the Dutch Trade & Investment Fund (DTIF) show how Atradius DSB supports exporters in complex projects in emerging markets, where local economic and social benefits are promoted.
Atradius Dutch State Business' (DSB) Annual Review 2022 shows a year of growth, sustainability and support for Dutch exporters. Atradius DSB remains a stable factor in export financing, with additional focus on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and climate-focused initiatives. The share of green transactions increased by 54 policies, and SMEs remain a strong growth market.
