Dutch ECA fosters sustainability and SME support

AMSTERDAM, June 27 2023 – As published in its Annual Review 2022, Atradius Dutch State Business (DSB) insured €4.8 billion worth of export credits on behalf of the Dutch government in 2022.

The amount covered concerns the exports of capital goods and contracting work. The share of cover for SMEs and for green transactions increased sharply.

In 2022, Atradius DSB issued 153 policies for all products, enabling exporters of Dutch capital goods and services from various sectors to do business more safely with local buyers in 50+ countries.

  • The total volume of policies issued in 2022 reached €4.8 billion, almost double the previous year's figure.
  • The proportion of SME exporters reached increased from 38% in 2021 to 49% in 2022.
  • Premium income was €143 million in 2022, just slightly lower than in 2021.
  • Claims paid were €69 million lower than in 2021.
  • In addition, €72 million in collections were received, in most cases a result of long-term collection processes.

More green transactions

The number of green transactions in the portfolio has increased significantly in recent years, from 10% in 2020, to 26% in 2021 and 35% in 2022. In 2022, these included solar energy, water treatment, wind turbine transportation and green ammonia development. The first policy under the new Green Cover was awarded to Econowind for developing fuel-saving, industrial sails for cargo ships.  The sector distribution of policies issued was diverse in 2022, with mechanical engineering and the maritime sector again at the top. In the coming years, Atradius DSB, as an Export Credit Agency  will focus on further supporting the sustainable transition of the Dutch export economy and in particular reach more SME entrepreneurs.
